Republican House Leader John Boehner's recent statement has summed up what is wrong with the Republican Party. On CNN's State of the Union, Boehner said, "We accept moderates in our party, and we want moderates in our party. We cover a wide range of Americans."
This is exactly what is wrong with the GOP. The last thing the GOP needs is more moderates. Conservative voters want to vote for conservatives. They do not want moderates, and they will not support them. As long as the GOP embraces moderates, they can be sure the GOP will continue to lose elections. Moderates got the GOP into their current mess and will continue to drag the party down until the GOP either becomes completely obsolete of rediscovers conservatism.
The GOP needs to move back toward conservatism, and they need to do it in a hurry. The GOP has about six more months to get their act together in time to charm voters for the 2010 Election. If John Boehner's idiotic comment is any indication of the GOP's plans for the next six months, they should just step aside and let a third party take the lead.

Endangered RINOs: Moderates are Republicans in Name Only
The Grand Old Party has been in control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives for a few years now, but they have been largely ineffective. This is mainly because the Republican Party is full of wimps, but it also has a lot to with an infestation of odious beasts known as RINOs.
RINOs are Republicans in Name Only. These are moderates or liberals who have chosen to take on the label of Republican for the sake of political convenience; however, they govern as if they were Democrats. They tend to support the Democrat platform. They vote with Democrats, and they will often band together to block Republican Party initiatives. Sadly, these RINOs are more effective than Democrats in obstructing the Republicans.
Prominent RINOs are Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chafee, Susan Collins, Christopher Shays, Michael Bloomberg, Christine Todd Whitman, et al. Given the beliefs and practices of these people, they have much more in common with Democrats than with Republicans. The only mystery is why they just do not leave the party and join their comrades on the other side of the aisle.
In 2001, Jim Jeffords felt he no longer belonged in the Republican Party, so he left to become an Independent. At least we can respect Jeffords for coming out of the closet and officially breaking ranks with the Republicans. Why don’t the other RINOs follow Jeffords’ lead? Wouldn’t it just be better for them to be free of the party they disagree with so strongly? Wouldn’t the Republicans be able to function better without them as a solid minority instead of a fractured pseudo-majority?
Dear RINOs, it is time to take a stand. Leave the Republican Party and become Independents. Or, better yet, start a new moderate party. The two-party system does not seem to be working very well. Maybe a third party of moderate centrists is the answer. Certainly, there are many disgruntled moderate Democrats that would love to join you.
