Jeb Bush Is the Perfect Vice-President for Giuliani

Assuming that Rudy Giuliani will get the Republican presidential nomination, the GOP will have to overcome Giuliani’s biggest problem. Rudy Giuliani is a moderate, and conservatives hate moderates.

The Republican conservatives are going to begin grumbling when they start learning about Giuliani’s liberal positions on social issues. A lot of conservatives are not going to like Giuliani, so the GOP will need to find someone to appease that huge portion of the base.

Nothing appeases conservatives like a Bush. Fortunately, the Bush family has a new Bush coming up in the current growing season: Jeb Bush. Jeb Bush may not be as conservative as his brother, President George W. Bush, but he is a solid Republican with a proven track record as Governor of Florida. Governor Bush is a good public speaker, is respected, and is highly popular in Florida. Jeb Bush will soon be stepping down as Governor, and he will be looking for the next big job.

As the candidate for Vice-President, Jeb Bush could easily carry the swing state of Florida. Florida could decide the 2008 election. If Jeb Bush can take Florida, the Democrats will have to work very hard in the other swing states.

Furthermore, Jeb Bush is a rather young man, and he has a strong appeal to younger people. He also has a Mexican wife and speaks fluent Spanish. Jeb Bush’s Hispanic connections will help the Republicans appeal to the growing group of Latino voters.

Some will argue that Jeb Bush’s worst asset is his last name. Liberals have grown to hate the Bush family name, and they will instinctively vote against any ballot entry where that name appears. The sad fact for the liberals is the Republicans do not care about them. Anyone who hates George W. Bush so passionately probably would never vote Republican anyway, so the potential loss of votes is minimal. The fact is that conservatives love the Bush name like a trusted brand. Many conservatives will instinctively vote for any ballot entry where that name appears.

With Rudy Giuliani and Jeb Bush on the ticket, the Republicans will be incredibly strong in 2008, and they will need to be. Hillary Clinton could be an incredibly strong candidate if the conditions are right for her and she chooses her running mate wisely. If you are not scared of Hillary yet, just look in the mirror and slowly say, “President Hillary Clinton. President Hillary Clinton. President Hillary Clinton.” She just might materialize behind you like Bloody Mary.

Rudy Giuliani Is Best Pick to Defeat Hillary Clinton in 2008

Assuming that the Democrats nominate Hillary Clinton for 2008, the Republican will have to reach for the stars to pull out a win.

John McCain is most frequently mentioned as the Republican presidential nominee for 2008. McCain does have enough clout to beat Hillary, but he is a little risky. McCain is unpredictable and has alienated a lot of Republicans. John McCain can certainly energize moderates, but he will have a very difficult time energizing the Republican base. After all, elephants are known for long memories, and McCain has angered a lot of elephants.

Rudy Giuliani is the clear Republican choice for President for one main reason: Rudy Giuliani can beat Hillary Clinton. After 9/11, Giuliani, arose as a great leader. His bravery and bold leadership as Mayor after the 9/11 attack gave him national recognition and respect. Since 9/11, Giuliani has had a very high profile and draws massive crowds wherever he goes. Giuliani always has the common man on his side. Even the Democrats that do not like Giuliani’s politics, still respect him as a man.

A significant factor that makes Rudy Giuliani a strong contender for 2008 is that he can take New York’s electoral votes. If the Republicans win New York, they will almost definitely win the nation. The Democrats simply cannot spare New York’s electoral votes.

Giuliani is also very popular among the California moderates, and his popularity will put California’s huge block of electoral votes in play. The Democrats cannot win the nation without California, and they will have to spend a massive amount of campaign money to secure the state.

Rudy Giuliani’s biggest problem is that he is a moderate. The Republican conservatives are going to begin grumbling when they start learning about Giuliani’s liberal positions on social issues. A lot of conservatives are not going to like Giuliani, so the GOP will need to find someone to appease that huge portion of the base. Fortunately, the Republicans do have several potential vice-presidential candidates with conservative appeal.

The big unknown with Giuliani is his past. Giuliani has never faced intense scrutiny over his private life. The Republicans’ biggest worry will be what skeletons Giuliani has in his closet. Giuliani has already raised some eyebrows with his past marriage, and New York has a shameful tradition of political corruption. Even if Rudy Giuliani himself has not been involved in any of the corruption, it is probable that some of his associates have been connected to some unseemly dealings. Scandals can sink campaigns, and the Republicans need to know what might be coming at them when the press starts sifting through the past few decades of Giuliani’s life.

If Giuliani’s hands are fairly clean, he should be a spectacular candidate. The Republicans are going to need someone big to keep Hillary Clinton from getting back into the White House.

Are the Republicans Right on the Torture Issue?

Since 9/11 a question has been floating around about whether or not America should torture terrorists to extract information. The Republicans are lining up against allowing the torture of terrorists.

This is a very complicated issue, and many things have to be considered when reaching a conclusion about whether or not torture should be allowed. Here are a few questions to consider.

If America tortures terrorists, will it deter potential terrorists from attacking Americans?

Does legalized torture of terrorists hurt America’s international standing?

Does legalized torture of terrorists put our troops in more or less jeopardy?

Is the torture of terrorists beneath the dignity of America?

If we had captured Mohammed Atta, at 11:00PM on September 10, 2001, would it have been okay to torture him to find out which flights his fellow terrorist were going to hijack?

If a terrorist group hid a dirty bomb somewhere in Manhattan, and the FBI had one hour find it, would it be okay to use torture to find the bomb?

President Arnold Schwarzenegger: Article II of the Constitution Is All That Is Saving Us

I should begin by giving credit where credit is due. Arnold Schwarzenegger took on the office of Governor during a serious economic and political crisis in California. Governor Gray Davis had been an abysmal failure, and California was in shambles. Governor Schwarzenegger quickly moved in and rescued California, putting it back on the path to its former greatness.

Governor Schwarzenegger’s spectacular success in California is what makes him so dangerous. As soon as people began to realize that Schwarzenegger is not the big-screen muscle-head they thought he was and that he actually does have the brains and talent to run one of the largest economies in the world, they began whispering about what a great President he would be.

Most of the elements are in place for Governor Schwarzenegger. He is charismatic. He is wealthy. He is well connected. He has a proven track record of success, and he has a name that is known by almost every potential voter in America. There is only one thing missing: eligibility.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Austria, and Article II of the United States Constitution prohibits foreign-born citizens from serving as President. For many people the realities of Article II are crushing. They would love to see a President Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fortunately, the United States Constitution will make that extraordinarily difficult.

Governor Schwarzenegger is an excellent Republican for California, because he is liberal enough to hold power in that left-learning state, but he is still loyal enough to his party that the Republicans do not have to worry about him doing too much irreversible damage to the California Republicans.

While Governor Schwarzenegger may be great for a California, he would be awful for America. If taken to a national scale, Schwarzenegger’s liberal social policies would result in a massive surge in the size and scope of the Federal government. We would have a large taxpayer funded program for almost every conceivable problem. Most politicians would never have the power to get all of these disastrous programs passed thorough Congress, but Governor Schwarzenegger is not like most politicians. His powers of persuasion and ability to get the populace on his side would make him a juggernaut in D.C. No Senator or Congressman would stand a chance against blocking Schwarzenegger’s initiatives. In short, Schwarzenegger would get his way on almost everything, making him one of the most powerful Presidents in history. His liberal policies would sail through Congress and become the law of the land, increasing the Federal government’s influence in our lives for generations.

Fortunately, as the law now stands, America is being spared this fate by Article II. Our Founding Fathers were truly brilliant when they drafted the United States Constitution. Hopefully, our modern-day leaders will not dare to assume that their wisdom is greater than the framers of the greatest political document ever created.

Alternative Minimum Tax Delay Exposes Republican Priorities

Another year has gone by without the Republicans managing to retool the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). Bill Frist says the delay is necessary to focus on extending tax cuts on dividends and capital gains, but this does not have to be an "either-or" issue. If the Republicans cared enough about tax cuts, they would have completed both measures in 2005.

Didn’t we send all of those Republicans to Congress to reduce taxes? What is taking them so long?

George P. Bush Is the Future of the GOP

America’s changing demographics is creating some harsh realities for the Republicans. America was once mostly White; however, this is rapidly changing with the growing Black population and the exploding numbers of the Latinos. Furthermore, the Baby Boomers are turning silver in droves, and Generation X is starting to move into positions of power. Most of what we have known since World War II is going to change. America twenty years from now will be radically different from the country we know now.

Given these inevitable changes, the Republicans need to look to a different future. They have to stop mining the Baby Boomers for candidates and start developing the next generation of leaders.

George Prescott Bush fits the bill for the Republican Party’s next generation of leaders. George P. Bush was born in 1976, which makes him part of the vital Generation X. He is half Mexican and half White, which should make him attractive to both minorities and Whites. With a law degree from the University of Texas, he is well educated in political science. Fortunately, George P. Bush has charisma and looks like a leader. He has performed well in public appearances and seems comfortable in the spotlight.

George Prescott Bush’s most valuable asset, however, is his name. His great grandfather, Prescott Bush was a Senator. His grandfather, George H. W. Bush, and uncle, George W. Bush, have both served as President. His father, Jeb Bush, has been a highly successful two-term Governor in Florida and also has an excellent chance of becoming President in the near future.

If George P. Bush can keep his nose clean, he is an obvious choice for the future of the Republican Party and needs to be groomed for a big future. America has already put two George Bushes in the Oval Office. If the Republicans are smart, they will get busy preparing to make George P. Bush the third one.

Endangered RINOs: Moderates are Republicans in Name Only

The Grand Old Party has been in control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives for a few years now, but they have been largely ineffective. This is mainly because the Republican Party is full of wimps, but it also has a lot to with an infestation of odious beasts known as RINOs.

RINOs are Republicans in Name Only. These are moderates or liberals who have chosen to take on the label of Republican for the sake of political convenience; however, they govern as if they were Democrats. They tend to support the Democrat platform. They vote with Democrats, and they will often band together to block Republican Party initiatives. Sadly, these RINOs are more effective than Democrats in obstructing the Republicans.

Prominent RINOs are Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, Lincoln Chafee, Susan Collins, Christopher Shays, Michael Bloomberg, Christine Todd Whitman, et al. Given the beliefs and practices of these people, they have much more in common with Democrats than with Republicans. The only mystery is why they just do not leave the party and join their comrades on the other side of the aisle.

In 2001, Jim Jeffords felt he no longer belonged in the Republican Party, so he left to become an Independent. At least we can respect Jeffords for coming out of the closet and officially breaking ranks with the Republicans. Why don’t the other RINOs follow Jeffords’ lead? Wouldn’t it just be better for them to be free of the party they disagree with so strongly? Wouldn’t the Republicans be able to function better without them as a solid minority instead of a fractured pseudo-majority?

Dear RINOs, it is time to take a stand. Leave the Republican Party and become Independents. Or, better yet, start a new moderate party. The two-party system does not seem to be working very well. Maybe a third party of moderate centrists is the answer. Certainly, there are many disgruntled moderate Democrats that would love to join you.

White House Christmas Card Snubs Christmas

The 2005 Christmas card from the White House simply wishes the recipients a Happy Holiday Season. President Bush should be ashamed of himself for letting this card go out. If people are so offended by Christmas, they just should not acknowledge the celebration.

Kwanzaa is a ridiculous made up holiday, but I don’t send out cards to everyone wishing them a "Happy African Harvest Season." I don’t like Kwanzaa, so I just ignore it. That’s what the Bush Administration should do. If they don’t like Christmas, they just shouldn’t mention it.

Furthermore, it is wasteful to spend tax dollars to send 1.4 million cards that basically have no meaning. Why doesn’t the White House just send out cards out in a few months wishing everyone a Merry Spring?

It is true that this politically correct foolishness has been going on at the White House for over decade, but shouldn't Bush be the President to stand up and make a change? If President Bush doesn't have the courage to reverse this stupid trend of whiting out Christmas, then what President will?

Oh, and by the way, Merry Christmas!
